Eliakim, born in 1801[1] in Scotland, Burford Township, Upper Canada (Ontario), was the son of United Empire Loyalists Finlay Malcolm and Tryphena Wardwell. He married Samantha Sexton in 1822. A social reformer, he sided with the rebels during the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837 and was forced to flee for a time. After the general pardon, he returned to Oakland Township. [2]He served two terms as the township's reeve in 1853 and 1854. [3]
