Vincent Anton Malek was born on May 6, 1904 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Frank and Mary Kaspar (or Kasper) Malek. [1]
Lasalle Hotel Fire
On June 5, 1946, Vincent Malek was a Fire Captain with the Chicago Fire Department. It is reported that he and 3 men from his company climbed the Madison Street marquee in order to access the 3rd floor, looking for victims and survivors. [2]
Vincent A. Malek , 86, a retired division marshal for the Chicago Fire Department, died Monday in Highland Park Hospital.
For the last 11 years of his career, he commanded a city district that included the Chicago Stadium area from a firehouse at Laflin and Harrison. He retired in 1963 after 33 years of service.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Malek , who lived on Chicago's West Side most of his life, had resided in Berwyn recently until he moved to the Deerfield area to be near his family.
Survivors include a daughter, a son, a brother, Fred; a sister, Mildred Woods, and five grandchildren.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, 7600 W. Cermak, Forest Park. (Note:obituary edited to remove names of living persons). [4]
