Date: 7 October 1708 [1][3] / 28 Sep 1708 [3]Even though the Family search transcription stated the baptism as 28 Sept 1708, I believe the eGGSA date 7 October 1708 is the correct date. 28 Sept was on a Friday and 7 October on a Sunday.[4][5]
Place: [Cape Town], Cape of Good Hope, [South Africa] [3]
↑"The roman numerals only apply from September (etymologically speaking and in the church books), before that they wrote the month out or a different abbreviation. The earlier month names are not based on numbers but Roman gods etc. So VII or 7 is for Sept-ember (it was once the 7th month) not July, XIII or 8 is for Oct-ober not August, IX or 9 is for Nov-ember not September, and X is for Dec-ember not October. I also agree that Sunday makes more sense for baptisms. You could work out the pattern for the whole page if necessary, I have done this before to check a date and it went from Sunday to Sunday for baptisms in these records." Riding, Helen.
