Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Roger Mallory IV was a Virginia colonist.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Roger Mallory IV is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A209117.

Roger Mallory IV was born circa 1742, most likely in or near Orange County, Virginia. He was the son of Roger Mallory and Sarah Street. The Daughters of the American Revolutionary War Genealogical Research System simply states his birth "ante 1755."[1]

Roger Mallory appears on a 1782 tax list at Orange County, Virginia. He received a grant of 500 acres on State Creek in Fayette County, Kentucky about 1784 or 1785, surveyed 29 January 1785. He appears on Fayette County tax lists 1787, 12 April 1789 and 4 December 1789. In 1789 he sold 13 acres on the headwaters of David's Fork Creek in Fayette County to Benjamin Haley, and in March 1810 he sold another 70 acres on the headwaters of David's Fork of North Elkhorn to Benjamin Haley for $710. He was enumerated on the 1810 census in Fayette County near Samuel Mallory, presumed to have been his son.[2] He also appears on the 1820 census at Fayette County, Kentucky.[3]

Roger Mallory made his will 23 March 1821. It was probated in November of 1822 at Fayette County, Kentucky:[4]

In the name of God, Amen; I, Roger Mallory of Fayette County State of Kentucky being in sound mind and memory do make this my last Will and Testament, revoking all others heretofore made by me. First, I recommend my soul to God that gave it and my body to be buried in a desent Christian burial at the discression of my Executors and as for my worldly estate, I leave it in the following manner: First, for all just Debts to be paid out of my estate by my Executors and Secondly that my son Ambrose Mallory and my son Samuel Mallory are to have full possession at my death of the Lands already deeded to them by my self and wife Sarah Mallory together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and thirdly for my negroes and the whole of my moveable property to be sold at public Sale on a credit of twelve months and the money it brings together with all my cash notes and accounts to be collected by my Executors and my wife Sarah Mallory to be well supported by them during her life out of the same at their discression as she is not in her right mind and I wish them to take care of her and; Fourthly: at her death for the whole amount of money remaining in their hands to be equally divided among four of my children, namely my Son James Mallory my daughter Agnes Mallory my daughter Jane Smith and my daughter Frances Leach with a reduction of fifty dollars from my son George Mallory and thirty-dollars from my daughter Frances Leach which I have already given them, and Fifthly: the reason why I have not mentioned the rest of my children in my Will is because I have already given them what I intended, and lastly I do constitute and appoint my Son in Law William Smith with my son Ambrose Mallory and my son Samuel Mallory Executors to this my last will and Testament; As Witness my hand and seal this Twenty third day of March in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty one.

Research Note

Ancestry trees seem to be conflated with Roger Mallory, another DAR patriot who left no will but died in Williamson County, Tennessee circa 1837.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Roger by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Roger:

Hi - I have added what I believe to be the correct George Mallory (Mallory-2744) who was born in Orange County Virginia and died in Scott County, Kentucky as a child for Roger Mallory IV. I believe that the current George H Mallory born in Louisa County, Virginia and died in Grayson County, Virginia is an incorrect child of Roger Mallory IV and belongs to a different father. There are several DNA links based on ancestry.com DNA that would seem to corroborate this. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Do you think he was s/o Mallory-2242? That's what I have in notes from another researcher. Haven't done any original work myself.

Hi Justin. It is possible. I volunteer at the genealogy library in Daytona Beach, Florida. There is a patron that I have been helping and this is her lineage. She is trying to prove the lineage to join the DAR. I have only worked on her line and not sure where the other George belongs. I did go ahead and add a little bit that I found on the DAR website such as a patriot sticker for Roger Mallory IV being a patriot. The only lineage that is for sure proven for DAR is through the son, Samuel Mallory, who moved to Missouri. I put a link to the DAR lineage that was approved on his page.
