When Richard Malone was born on March 11, 1776, in Loudoun County, Virginia, his father, John, was 45 and his mother remains unknown. He married Susannah Weaver in 1797 in his hometown. They had eight children in 14 years.

He died in Vernon on October 21, 1857, having lived a long life of 81 years.
