James (71) in a household with her daughter Avie Stella Woodall (41) and new son-in-law, Howard Woodall (54, an Army veteran working as Assistant Postmaster, salary $2500). Children in the household are Clara E. Woodall (4), Orena R. Proctor (18), and Anna W. Proctor (16). Orena Belle stated she lived in Dallas, so presumably was only visiting her daughter at the time of the 1940 Census. Husband Howard Woodall is found in Dallas in the 1930 Census, so presumably he remarried the widow Avie Stella James and left his Dallas job with the "Veteran Bureau" to take the job of Assistant Postmaster in Hays County between 1930 and 1940 .
A Texas death certificate shows she was born 22 May 1868 in Alabama, and died at age 74 on 17 Jan 1943 in Dallas, Dallas Co, Texas. Her parents are listed as Wm. M. Malone and Elizabeth Crowell Malone.
