He married Euphemia Bartlum on 22 May 1867 in Key West in a ceremony performed by Osgood E. Herrick, Rector of St. Paul's Church.[2]
Walter died on 25 June 1894 in Key West, and he is buried there in the City Cemetery.[3]
Walter served as Mayor of Key West from 1889 to 1891.[4]
