Filippo Giulio Mancini (1641-1707), son of Lorenzo Mancini and his wife, Geronima Mazzarini, nephew of Cardinal Mazarin, was sent to France by his uncle. He inherited part of his uncle's enormous fortune in 1661.

In 1670 he married Diane-Gabrielle Damas de Thianges, niece of Madame de Montespan. They had six children including:

  1. Diane Gabrielle Victoire Mancini (1672-1716), princess of Chimay
  2. Philippe (1676-1769), prince of Vergagne and later duke of Nevers
  3. Diane Adélaïde Philippe Mancini (1687-1747) duchess of Estrées
  4. Jacques Hippolyte Mancini (1690-1759) who married Anne-Louise de Noailles.
