William's family, his parents and 2 older sisters made their home in Hays, Texas in 1870. His father was a farmer. William was not in school yet, and was the youngest. He was 4 years old[3].

By 1880, William's family has moved to Travis, Texas . Their family has grown to 4 children, adding John who was born in 1875. William is now 12 years old and is attending school[4].

William married Mary in 1893, and in 1900 made their home in Edwards, Texas. They owned a home on a farm free of a mortgage, and he was a farmer by trade. They now have 6 children. Annie, Williams sister was staying with the family, This record shows a birthdate for William of Feb 1869, one month different than what is shown for Annie - March 1869.
