Biography

John Wesley Maners was born on June 11, 1857, in Clay, Indiana, his father, William, was 48 and his mother, Elliner, was 38. He married Amelia Jane "Jennie" Williams on June 15, 1884, in Owen, Indiana. They had three children during their marriage. He died on February 8, 1940, in Vincennes, Indiana, at the age of 82, and was buried in Spencer, Indiana.[1]

Obituary

John W. Maners, son of William B. and Ellen (Walker) Maners was born June 11, 1857 in Clay Township, Owen County, Indiana. He was one of a family of thirteen children who with his parents have all preceded him in death. He grew to manhood on the farm and spent most of his young life farming. When still a young boy he united with the Hedding's Chapel Methodist Church, and while on the farm was a regular attendant.
He was married to Amelia Jane "Jennie" Williams June 15, 1884 and to this union was born three children, Persia, Jesse and Hazel.
His wife preceded him in death April 1, 1926. Since then he has made his home with his children. He spent the Spring and Summer with his son, Jesse and family in Spencer. He enjoyed meeting and talking with his friends at his home town. He attended the Spencer Methodist Church of which he had been a member for many years. He was a member of the Men's Bible Class. In the Fall and Winter he stayed with his daughter and son-in-law at Vincennes. He attended the services of the Methodist Church there when his health permit it.
It was at the home of the daughter where he passed away Feb. 8, 1940 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 27 days. Death was due to a four weeks illness of bronchial pneumonia. Survivors are the daughter, Mrs. Owen and son Jesse. The other daughter, Mrs. Hazel Summers having preceded him in death several years ago. He had six grandchildren, five of which survive, also a great-grandson, and a number of other relatives and friends.[2]
