Biography

George Reynolds Manes was born in February 1785 in Moore, North Carolina, his father, Seth, was 23 and his mother, Susannah, was 22. He married Malinda Lawson in 1808 in Tennessee. They had six children in 21 years. He died in March 1852 in Searcy, Arkansas, at the age of 67.

Grandson Samuel Jasper letter

Excerpts from letter written by Samuel Jasper Manes to Jesse D Gustin in 1920. "Grandfather Seth Manes was in the Revolutionary War." "Grandfather Manes had 6 boys. His name was Seth. Grandmothers name was Patsy Fields. My father’s name was Jacob, then William, John, George, James, and Jesse." "Fathers brothers, all but George, lived and died in Tenn. George got immensely rich and died in Searcy County, Arkansas."

Pleasant Reynolds Manes was born about 1811 in Bradley County, Tennessee, the son of George R. and Malinda (Lawson) Maness. He married Mary Lucinda Gibbs in Rhea County, TN on February 23, 1832. The family resided in Hamilton County, TN in 1850. The marriage produced at least six children before the mother's death in the early 1850's in Arkansas: Elizabeth, John Wesley, Sr. (see McCarty Cemetery, Taney County, MO), Nancy Ann, William George and Millie.
