Ambrose Maness was born on 27 Oct 1763 in Cumberland County, North Carolina (later Moore County) as the probable grandchild of William Maness, Sr. He died after 1840 in Owen, Indiana, USA. When he was 21, he married Katherine Honeycutt in 1785 in Moore County, North Carolina, USA.
Ambrose Maness lived in Moore County, North Carolina, USA in 1790. He lived in Fayetteville, Moore, North Carolina, USA in 1800. He lived in Moore County, North Carolina, USA in 1810. He lived in Morgan, Owen, Indiana, USA in 1840.
He filed for a revolutionary pension claim on 12 Nov 1838
OWEN, INDIANA COURT REVOLUTIONARY PENSION CLAIM; AGE 75 ON THE 27TH OCT. Served in Oct 1780 until 28th the following April, he enlisted at Cumberland, NC. William Bowling and Dison Gibson both clerymen in the neighborhood testified for his character. His application was first denied because he had not served continuous. It was later countered that he had served)
Ambrose Maness and Katherine Honeycutt probably had 10 children, according to census records, and these have been documented through other family records and DNA matches:
Ambrose Maness (assumed his son), born about 1785
Franey Agnes Maness was born in 1802 in North Carolina, USA.
John J Maness was born in 1806 in North Carolina, USA.
According to census records, Ambrose would have been born somewhere between 1751 and 1760. These census records also match his wife, Katherine being born between 1751 and 1760. On The Wallaces of Moore County, NC[1], Ambrose has a birth date of 13 Oct 1763, listed from his Revolutionary War Pension. He is likely the grandson of William Sr, but since I'm not sure of "where" he belongs, I'm leaving him here.. There is a younger Ambrose, born between 1785 and 1794 - this is likely Ambrose's son. In the 1810 census hs is listed as "under 26" and his wife as "over 25", so my guess is that he was born closer to 1786, which would be right in line with his parents' marriage.
