Born February 14, 1934 to Francis and Beatrice Manley in St. Clair, MI, died peacefully November 25, 2013 at Arbor Hospice Ann Arbor. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne along with his children, Diane (John) Keast, James P. Manley, John (Diane) Manley, Janice (Mark) Payeur, Jeff (Rachel) Manley, Deanna (Robert) Tippett, Alfredo Lazo. His sister, Susan (Paul) Legaj, seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also mourn his passing. Jim, a member of Zeta Chi fraternity, graduated with a B.A. in Music Education from Michigan State Normal College and went into music retail in 1953. He worked at Carty's Music until buying the business in 1973, eventually moving the business to its final location on Hewitt Road. Working with his wife and children, he cheerfully provided instrument sales and service along with sheet music and musical supplies until the business closed in 2005. He played many instruments himself and lent his talents to many different combos, bands and pit orchestras, mainly playing his upright bass. He was a founding member of St. Ursula Catholic Church and continued his faith throughout his life. He also shared a love of hunting, fishing and camping with his family, building his dream cottage in Farwell. He was proud to have served 34 years as a Reserve Deputy with the Washtenaw County Sheriff Department from 1969-2004. He spent many long nights on patrol - even finding his feline companion, Memphis P.D., who continues to look for Jim to cuddle on his lap. Remembered for his love of family and infamous for his story-telling ability, family will meet friends at Stark Funeral Service - Moore Memorial Chapel, 101 S. Washington Street, Ypsilanti from 6-9 PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 and from 9:30 AM until time of service at church on Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 9425 Whittaker Road Augusta Township at 10:30 AM November 29, 2013; Father Edward Ertzbischoff officiating. Cremation will take place andinterment will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett, MI in a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory can be made to Arbor Hospice, AnnArbor, MI.
