Emily Jane Mann died 4 September 1887 at Tipton, Staffordshire, England. An inquest heard that she was found drowned in the Birmingham canal and that she had refused help.
The jury returned a verdict of "Suicide whilst of unsound mind".
She was 14 years old.[3]
Research Notes
1881 census has second name recorded as Elisebeth.
Death Registration Index appears to have surname MASON.[4]
Identity confirmed by references in the newspaper article to "Emily Jane Mann ... daughter of Herbert Mann ... of Campbell Street, Brockmoor".
Recollections of a family member are that she was called "Emily" and died in 1946. No confirmation of this found. This recollection is clearly incorrect.
