Biography

John was born at Knockmuir near Avoch, Scotland in 1869. He emigrated to Australia in 1889. He entered the Queensland Parliament as the Member for Cairns in 1904. In partnership with his brother Alexander, he owned a sugar cane farm at Edmonton and in 1912 he also acquired another cane farm at Home Hill in Queensland. He married Janet King in Brisbane in 1910 and the couple had five children. Janet died in August 1921. In July 1937, he married Amy Stuart nee Schulze. She died in June 1938 in Rockhampton. He was the son of Alexander Mann and Catharine More. He passed away in Cairns in January 1939.
