On the 1851 census, Thomas, a brakesman, and Elizabeth are living in Willington with their children: John (14 years), Jane (12 years), Mary Ann (10 years), Elizabeth (8 years), Eleanor (5 years), Maria (3 years) and Thomas (11 months).[4]
On the 1861 census, Thomas, a banksman, and Elizabeth are living at Brancepeth Colliery with their children: John (34 years), Mary Ann (21 years), Elizabeth (19 years), Eleanor (16 years), Maria (13 years), Thomas (11 years), Joseph (9 years) and Sarah (6 years). Their son, John, is an engineman like his father. Eleanor and Elizabeth are dressmakers, and Mary Ann is a housemaid.[5]
Thomas Manners died, aged 57 years, on 27 February 1867 and was buried in St. Stephens Churchyard, Willington.[6]
