ANDREW MANNING

ANOTHER old pioneer of, the Hawkesbury district crossed the Great Divide when Mr. Andrew (Archie) Manning passed away at his daughter's residence, Bridge street, Windsor, on the 14th instant. He had been a martyr to rheumatism for the past ten years, and so severe was his affliction that for quite a time he had been unable to move about. But he was a good Christian gentleman, and bore his sufferings patiently. He was in his 72nd -year, and had lived practically all his life in the district. Deceased .was a son of the late George Manning, a well known marine captain in the early days of the Hawkesbury, and was born at Sackville North. Fifty-two years ago , he was married in Sydney to Miss Amanda Wall, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Wall, who had their home for many years on the farm now occupied by Mrs. Joshua Bushell, of Richmond-road. The young couple lived for a short time in Sydney, them returned to the Hawkesbury and settled in Windsor, where Mrs. Manning died about six years ago. The late Mr. Manning was a fine old type of Hawkesbury Native, and gained friends with everyone whom he came in contact. He will be kindly remembered by many old Hawkesburyites as the owner-captain of the old steamer St. Albans, which traded on the Hawkesbury River for many years. He retired from the river trading business, however, over a quarter of a century ago, and lived in retirement in Windsor up to the time of his death. Much sympathy is expressed for the family in their bereavement. They are: Vida (Mrs. Carter, Waverley), Alfred (Kempsey), Amy (North. Sydney); Cecil (Carlton), Unice (Mrs. Cecil O'Brien, Windsor), and Myra (Mrs. Claude Aspery, Windsor). It was unfortunate for one of the sons, Mr. Alfred Manning, of Kempsey, that his father had to be buried so soon and that he was unable to get down in time for the funeral. The remains-were laid to rest in St. Matthew's Church of. England cemetery, Windsor, on Wednesday. Rev. N. Jenkyn officiated at the graveside, and Mr. Chandler was the undertaker.
