Biography

Jemima was born in 1788 in Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Unknown Manning. Her ons Charles and John, living together in 1880[1], both reported their mother's birthplace as Pennsylvania.

Jemima married William Steward on 29 October 1815 in Pickaway, Miami, Ohio. The couple had 4 children: Silas Manning, John Stewart, Nancy Stewart and Charles Stewart.[2][3]

She later married Benjamin Russell.

In the 1850 census Jemima (age 60) was in Springcreek, Miami, Ohio, United States.[4] The household included Benjamin Russel 58, Jemima Russel 60. Benjamin was a farmer.

Jemima died in 1854 in Miami county, Ohio.[5]

Karen Pinkerton believes the parents of Jemima Manning are probably John (b. 1742) Manning and Sarah Hall (or Elizabeth Harnett) early settlers of Miami county, Piqua. Jemima, one of 13 children, only 10 known. She had a son Silas Manning, born 1809 (Silas later migrated to Indiana). She had three children with her first husband William Stewart, and no children with her second husband Benjamin Russell.
