Temperance Manning was born about March 12, 1838 in Smith, Tennessee, United States, daughter of John Manning (1791–1856) and Sarah Jane Heflin (1802–1877).

In 1850, Temperance (12) was living in South Division, Smith with her siblings, John Mannin (62), Sarah Mannin (48), Francis Mannin (20), John Mannin (16), Arch Mannin (14), Franklin Mannin (6), and Francis Mannin (21); and Louisa Mannin (30), Tempy Mannin (12), Iaac Mannin (10), Burald Mannin (6), Tobitha Mannin (4), and Hyram Mannin (21). [1]

Temperance (41) married Harden Denney (43) (born in 1836 in Tennessee; son of Charles Denny and Martha Patricia (Everett) Denney) in 1880. Their son was Aaron Jackson Denney (1880–1967).
