Doctor Edward Mansfield was born in 1892 in Indooroopilly, Queensland, Australia. He was the eldest son of Edward Mansfield and Margaret Bird.[1] Sir James Mansfield, twice Solicitor General of Great Britain, was his great-great-grandfather.
Edward became a medical doctor. Together with his doctor brother, Thomas he set up a medical practice in Cairns, North Queensland in the early 1920s. Their younger brother, Alan, was by then carving out a career in the Queensland legal system that would eventually see him appointed Governor of Queensland.
