William was born at Elmstead, Kent, England, in 1713, and baptised on the 23rd of April 1713, the son of Walter Mantell , Gent. of Horton Priory, Monks Horton, Kent and Jane Bell.[1]
In 1749, Mantell assumed command of the HMS Siren after Matthew King's death.
William married Mary Hubble in 1753.
Captain of the "HMS Centurion 1732" in 1754, during the French and Indian War.
He succeeded his elder brother, Walter, who died without issue, to the Priory in 1758.
Captain William Mantell passed away at Sellindge, Kent, England, on the 21st of December 1765.[2]
William apparently had no children.
Mary Mantell later remarries to Thomas Colby in 1768. She dies in 1799.
