Biography

Joseph was born in 1914.[1] He was the son of John Mantia and Lena Dispensa. He passed away in 1994.[2]

Joe Mantia, 80, entertainer and piano teacher

Joe Mantia, 80, of Bensenville, a pianist, an entertainer and a teacher, died Tuesday at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Mr. Mantia had a 50-year musical career, including appearances at many Chicago-area hotels and nightclubs. Specializing in Latin music during the 1940s, he played with a trio and a quintet. He also taught piano, and his students included Ald. Ed Burke (14th) when Burke was in elementary school.

Mr. Mantia also was a frequent accompanist for the late entertainer Forrest Tucker and also worked with Bing Crosby's wife Kathryn.

Survivors include his wife, Carole; two sons, Johnny and Joseph; two daughters, Kathy Huffman and Leslie Penczek; and many grandchildren and great-grand-children.

Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 145 E. Grand Ave., Bensenville.
