Daniel Manton was born in about 1743 in Rhode Island, the son of Edward and Tabitha Manton.[1][2]

Daniel was a captain in a troop of RI Light Horse Cavalry during the Revolution and later a Colonel. He was a deputy in the Colonial legislature and very conspicious in the civil and religious matters in his own town. The whole family became so prominent in the town's business that a section bears their name today.[2]

He married Patience Olney in 1759.[2] They had children (all born in Johnston):
