Florence Edele Marton was the daughter of Caroline and Frederick Manton, who lived at Hokitika, New Zealand.[1][2]
Florence married three times. Her first marriage was to the surgeon William Rogers in 1882[3] and they resided in Nelson, New Zealand until after William's death in 1884. It's likely that Florence was William's second wife as he had two older daughters that were likely born before their marrage in 1882.[4]
William and Florence had had one son prior to his death, William Reginald Rogers, who was born in 1883.[5]
Florence and her son moved to Australia. Florence married Edward Victor Ffrench (also known as French) on 23 May 1888 at St Mary's Church, Caulfield, Victoria, Australia.[6] She had another three hildren with Edward.
After Edward died in 1907 she had to take in paying lodgers as she was left in reduced circumstances. One of her boarders was Dame Nellie Melba.[7]
She had married William Lawrence Du Boulay in 1908 in Victoria, Australia.[8] Du Boulay was a talented amateur violinist[9] and she often accompanied him in performances.[10]
In 1914 she was living at Kalingo, Albermarle Avenue, Rose Bay, Sydney, Australia.[11] In the New Year's Honours of 1917 he was awarded the Military Cross.[12]
She died in a private hospital in Darlinghurst on 9 May 1931.[13][14]
