just found possible parent of Miles Manzilla in Virginia in a free DB of VA tax rolls trying to replace lost 1790 & 1800 census records, Mundilla, Lot (Black) Caroline County (index is 1799personalA page 10) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Post a new comment) help froma very nice author shirad 2007-09-05 09:57 am (local) (link) Select Incredibly, I emailed a gentleman not expecting a reply, and he replied the very next day! What a very nice person, though it now occurs to me that I have not actually established a firm link between Miles Manzilla, b. VA 1799, and Lot Mundilla, whom I assume/think/expect/hope was his father, despite the extreme rareness of the name and even its variants in the US before 1880, it is still possible that they are not son and father (but I strongly suspect that they are -just need to establish birth county and then parental records for Miles Manzilla to be sure). Anyway, here's the bare information, since it may not be polite for me to mention him without permission here: - check Caroline County land records for a manumission. (The Library of Virginia will send its microfilm to the nearest library to you with a microfilm reader (usually your county library) on interlibrary loan: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/local/local_rec/county_city/index.htm) -confirms Lot Mundilla in the 1799 tax list on line -also: Thomas Terrell paid the tax for a Jesse and Lot Munrillo or Munzillo in the 1789 list (Perhaps there was some connection) - tax lists on interlibrary loan: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/tax/pptax/index.htm
