Biography


William married Margaret Priest on March 2, 1833 in Jefferson County, Ohio.[1] They were married by John Scarlott, Justice of the Peace. (John Scarlott resided in Ross Township, Jefferson County, Ohio in 1833.)

In 1840 William was living near James Marshall in Virginia:
1840 US Census - Brooke County, Virginia:
William Maple - Males: 1 (20<30), Females: 1 (30<40), 1 (15<20), 1 (5<10), 1 (<5)

On January 7, 1850, William Maple purchased land in Salt Creek Township, Decatur County, Indiana (the southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 30, Township 10, Range 10E).

A William Maple (age 40) and a Henry Maple (age 36) and were enumerated in Decatur County, Indiana in the 1850 US Census:

William and Henry may have been the sons of John Maple, but they also may have been the sons of William R. Maple (William and Henry).
In favor of the former possibility, it should be noted that John Maple's son David was the first Maple to purchase land in Decatur County, Indiana.

Maple-572 and Maple-13 appear to represent the same person because: I think the current evidence favors William R Maple as William's father. In any case, these two files definitely represent information for the same individual, regardless of whether his father was William or John.
