"BENJAMIN MAPLE b. ca. 1766, prob. NJ; d. 1823, Laurel, Franklin Co., IN; bur. Laurel Cem. m. Catherine _____. Founder of Laurel Methodist Church, Laurel, Franklin Co., IN. Moved from PA to Mason Co., KY; then to Woodford Co., KY; finally to Laurel, IN, in Mar. 1811. Settled on 2 square miles along White Water River, Ind. First lived in a log cabin, later built a stone residence. Built first blockhouse in that part of IN. Some of his large family went to Ohio and Missouri. Benjamin Maple was said to have had a brother John Maple who "remained in PA". This may be John Maple Jr. of Bucks Co., PA and NJ. He is also said to have been a brother to Stephen Mapel of Greene Co., PA, and to a John Maple of Jefferson Co., KY. He may have been a son of John Maple Sr. or of Thomas Maple Sr. The fact that he settled in KY some 30 miles distant from where John Maple Sr. settled suggests they were not father and son.
He is not a son of Benjamin Maple Jr. nor of his son Benjamin Maple III, for this latter had a son Benjamin Maple IV who married Margaret Runyon and remained in NJ until his death in 1833. Also, he is not a son of William Maple Sr.
Deeds show that Benjamin and Catherine Maple were in southwestern PA between Feb. 1787 and Dec. 1796. See References at end of section.

According to "Maple Leaves", a booklet summarizing research by William Kenneth Maple, Benjamin Maple was b. 1766, NJ and moved to Greene (then part of Washington) Co., PA in 1781, then moved to KY in 1795, then again to Laurel, IN in 1811-----
