Letitia Marchaunt, widow, surrendered a parcel of land lying under the Court wall in length, and extending from aforesaid wall in breadth to the highway there near the well of the inheritance of William Marchaunt, sometime her husband, tenant of the premises by Court held the 7th October, 3 Edward VI. (1549). To be regranted to Miles Marchant, son and heir of said William, and the heirs of said Miles. Heriot nothing because it is held by bench. Said Miles Marchaunt admitted.

"1605 Will of MYLES MARCHANT, ESRO W/SM/C 23, great-great grandfather of THOMAS MARCHANT the diarist

In the name of God Amen The 25th day of October in the yeare of our Lord God 1605 I MYLES MARCHANT of Fulkinge in the Countie of Sussex beinge of very good and perfect memorie praysed be Allmightie God therefor Doe make this my last will and testament in manner and form following And first I commende my Soule unto the handes of Almighty God my maker and Redeemer And my bodie unto the earth to be buried in such meet place it shal be thought convenient by myne executor and overseers And I doe give and bequeath unto the poore people of the parish of Aberton xx s (20s) to be given and disposed by myne executor and overseers upon the daye of my burial And I doe also give and bequeath unto the poore people of the parish of Poyninge iiijs (4s) to be given and disposed as ys aforesayd And I doe give and bequeath unto my Daughter Marye Mockford the sum of xls (£10) to be paide unto her at the ende and expiracey of my lease which I have nowe of the farme lande of Poyninge or ells in steede thereof the best cows that my farme executor shall then have in his kepinge which of these two she shall like better at her choyce And I doe give and bequeath unto Rycharde Mockford my daughter Mary Mockford her sonne the summe of v li (£5) to be paide unto him at his full age of xxi (21) yeres And I doe give and bequeath unto the poore people of the parish of Dytchlling the summe of xs (10s) to be given and disposed unto them as in afore menconed And I doe give and bequeath unto ANN MARCHANT my wyfe my beste feather bede furnished And the best bedstedd exceptinge one And three coffere Cheasts at her choyce And A dosen and a half of pewter as they _____ indifferently And 15 payre of sheets as they shall ryse indifferently And I doe give and bequeath unto my sonne Thomas Marchant A joyned bedstedd with a featherbed furnished A table with frame and benches in the parlour And a table with frame and benches in the hall which table frame and benches my Wyll is that they shall remaine _____ in this house where they are allwais And I doe give and bequeath unto _____ and ordaine my whole and sole executor of this my laste will and testament And I doe desire my loving brothers George Luxforde and Edward Payne to be the overseers of this my will and testament to see it performed soe farre as in them may lyee And I give and bequeath _____ for the incumbrance of their good will And trobell therein besydes their charges borne A French crowne of golde And in witness thereof I have hereunto subscribed with myne owne hande In the presence of these witnesses hereunder named and written.
