Roger Eugene Maris was an American professional baseball right fielder who played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is best known for setting a new MLB single-season home run record with 61 home runs in 1961.
Roger Eugene Maris was born on September 10, 1934 in Hibbing, St. Louis, Minnesota, United States, son of Rudolph S. Maras (1911–1992) and Ann Corinne Perkovich (1913–2014).
He married Patricia "Pat" Carvel, his high school sweetheart, and they had six children.
He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 1983, which took his life on December 14, 1985 in Houston, Texas. He was just 51 years old.
Roger Maris was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fargo, North Dakota.[1]
Roger's baseball career began with three years in the minor leagues. In 1957, he was called up to the big leagues by the Cleveland Indians, but was traded to Kansas City Athletics
