The family emigrated to Canada about 1848 when Thomas was 18. They settled in Middlesex, Canada West, in what is still known as the Mark Settlement.
Thomas married Mary Sumner in May 1861; Mary was a widow of George Young and brought one child, Daniel Benjamin Young (1857-1934), to the marriage. Thomas and Mary remained in Parkhill and had eight children.
Thomas passed away in 1911 at age 91, 10 months & 13 days. He was buried in Parkhill Cemetery with his wife Mary (d. 1904).
