Latest information of William’s birthplace came from his daughter’s death certificate informant Lizzy’s daughter Frances. This is where Wayne, Indiana information came from Lizzy’s side of the family. Frances C.Leasy was born in Ohio an on the censuses one see how the children got the parents birthplaces mixed up. There was no rhyme or reason.

William Marks b 1832 died 1905. There is no death record In the Polk County Courthouse. I’ve been there three times looking for it the clerks deny having his death record. Even Polk County Muesum books have no record even if their death records say they started in1903 for Polk County. The clerks say he died in another county but that appears to be another wild goose chase. He lived in Washington and Yamhill County prior to Polk County. 10/19/2022 jep

William Marks place of birth has not been confirmed yet. Some family believe it's Wayne, Indiana. The 1870 Census lists his place of birth as Indiana, the 1880 Census lists his place of birth as Ohio, and the 1900 Census lists his place of birth as Ohio. On his childrens Census records they list their father as being from Indiana, Ohio mostly and a couple even listed Pennsylvania and Illinois as the birth place of their father. But mostly it seems to be between Ohio or Indiana as a consensus. No records can confirm where he was born at this time, or who his parents were. Only that he had a brother named Richard E Marks with him in Oregon when he married Francis Caroline Leasey in 1862. His brother disappeared after that and no records can be found on him.
