James was born in 1814. He was the son of James B. Marks Sr. and Annie Coker. On Sept. 3, 1835, James exchanged wedding vows with Rosena Ann McWilliams and they raised a large family of nine children. When the Civil War broke out and he joined the Confederacy. James became a member of Company F, 13th Battalion. James survived the war and died in 1866.
