DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
Please don't proceed with this merge quite yet, as two different men have been conflated in the above profile (Marks-745). It erroneously identifies John Gerrard Marks (Marks-1146) as son of Joseph Marks of Brookfield, Massachusetts and has both men's wives, and the PA/VA Marks's children, attached to it. (The MA John had no biological children.)
I have just adopted Joseph Marks's profile and would like to resolve the problem of this genealogically two-headed son!
I'm open to ideas from PMs of both Marks-1146 and Marks-745. I realize that most of these mixups are the result of old GEDcom imports, so not at all finding fault with current PMs. I'm sure we'd all like to get this straightened out.
Yes, I think so. If I detach the purported parents, create a new profile for their "real" son John, and at some point transfer his wife Mary (Kedder-3) over, the existing profile for Rev. John of PA/VA (Marks-745) can be left as is. The children all belong with him, as does wife Uriah.
