Biography

Personal Life

Richard was born in 1937 to Hilary Marquand and Rachel E (Rees) Marquand. His father was a Labour Member of Parliament in the Post Second World War Labour Government.

He is the younger brother of David Marquand, a political writer and academic.

Marquand died of a stroke in 1987 at the age of 49.

His Son James is also a director

Career

In the 1960's Marquand began writing and directing TV documentaries for the BBC.

He was approached by George Lucas to direct Star Wars Episode IV: Return of the Jedi as he was impressed with his direction of the 1981 film Eye of the Needle.
