Notes

From 1729 to 1752: Joseph-Marie spent his childhood on the paternal land following his father. It was necessary to clear, to build, to fish, to hunt in order to obtain the bases necessary for the food of the family. Land development and agriculture were Joseph-Marie Marquis' main interests; he is mentioned farmer, farmer, laborer in several documents.

Joseph-Marie's wedding, October 27, 1752, in Trois-Pistoles, with Marie-Françoise Côté, daughter of Prisque Côté and Geneviève-Ursule Bernier of L'Isle-Verte.

From 1752 to 1809: The active life of Joseph-Marie took place in Rivières-des-Caps, on his land made up of part of his father's fief, to go to the care of his mother, widow in 1754, assuming the guardianship of his younger brothers and minor sisters, he takes care of the establishment of his children, he acquires land, exchanges with brothers in law, and takes care of the development of the lands that his wife Marie-Françoise Côté, by inheritance, acquired L'Isle-Verte and will be used to establish two sons, Amable and Alexandre Marquis.

Note of Louise Marquis of St-Pascal in the Voice of the Marquis: »it is thus through an inheritance that Marie-Françoise Côté, wife of Joseph-Marie Marquis, made enter into the Marquis family a piece of land of L'Isle-Verte because Marie-Françoise Côté's father, Prisque Côté, was the son of a lord of the place, Jean-Baptiste Côté. The donation to the Marquis-Côté couple took place on March 11, 1759 ".

Note: Joseph-Marie inherited the land because at that time the woman could not inherit, but it is two of his sons, Joseph-Amable and Alexander, who settled there.

"The first house of Joseph-Amable Marquis, the first to arrive at Isle-Verte, was on land conceded by the lord near the Vases River, in the first row. His second house was in the second row. Remains were found near the current route of Route 132. The land of Joseph-Amable Marquis, inherited from his mother and father, was cultivated by seven generations:

His son Joseph-Amable dit José, husband of Françoise Leduc, and his grandson Narcisse Marquis, husband of Adélaïde Lebel, succeeded one another.

Narcissus built the third house on the land of his ancestors in 1849.

Achille Marquis, husband of Febronie Simard, took possession thereafter after a temporary exile in New Hampshire. The land has been fragmented to support several families. At that time, the houses of four of Achilles' sons (Charles, Didyme, Luc, and Ludger) succeeded each other on the second row.

Luc Marquis, husband of Émilia Lévesque, then took over the torch, followed by Aurèle Marquis, husband of Marie-Ange Dubé.

Aurelius bought land adjacent to the farm and, as a result, helped to restore, at least in part, the land of Achilles; but we are far from the initial fief!

Today, René Marquis is the successor of this long line on the paternal land.

March 28, 1809: Death of Joseph-Marie Marquis and burial at the cemetery Saint-André, Kamouraska, (today the Cradle of Kamouraska), after a life of dedication.
