Russell Isaac Marr (1903-1990)
Russell was born in Feb 1903 in Wentworth Creek, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada[1]
In 1969 he applied for a delayed birth certificate. Five documents were used to achieve the request. They were:
An Application for a Delayed Birth Registration which stated, 1. he has proof of an original record, that is 2. a family Bible, which states 3. an entry of the birth of Russell Isaac Marr on 3 Feb 1903, and that, 4. The entry showed no signs of being altered, 5., and appears to be original.[2]
Extract of a St Croix School, school register for 1914-15 stating his age on 1 Aug 1914 as 11 yrs 5 months 26 days old (3 Feb 1903). [3]
Copy of WWII Discharge Certificate. He enlisted as a volunteer private on 25 Jun 1941, in the World War II Canadian Army, # 6 Depot C. A., Kentville, Nova Scotia. Dated 15 or 16 Jan 1946. [4]
Delayed Registration of Birth This documents stated all pertinent information in regards to the request, his full name, name of parents, date of birth, etc, and an affidavit sworn by Harry E Leighton stating he was a life long resident of Wentworth and remembered the event.[5]
Extract of marriage license, 12 Oct 1931. This document states his age in yrs and his parents names.[6]
The 1911 Canadian census lists Russell as a 8 yr old (Feb 1903), Nova Scotia born, Irish Canadian, no reglious affiliation, living in Newport district, probably Ellershouse, NS.[7]
The 1921 Cdn census lists him as an 18 yr old, single, NS born, English-Cdn, Church of England adherent, farm labourer, living in Ellershouse, NS.[8]
He farmed most of his life. He operated a meat cutting business in the 1930's. He was head of maintenance at the Three Mile Plains District School, Three Mile Plains, NS in his later work years. [9]
He was married in 1931 in the Baptist Parsonage, Windsor, NS by Baptist rites to Edna Sarah DeWolfe. [10]
In 1936 he was Overseer of Roads for district # 8, West Hants, NS.[11]
He volunteered for WWII serving in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in England, France, Holland and Germany. He was a honourary member of the Sergeants Mess, Windsor NS. [12][13]
He was a member of the Windsor Legion # 109, Windsor, NS, served in its colour party as flag bearer (1966), and was a one time president.[14]He received a Legion Certificate of Merit, one of a group of three from the Windsor Legion to first receive the award in Windsor, for their volunteer work with the Legion.[15]
He was a volunteer convener of the Cdn Cancer Society in Three Mile Plains by May 1964.[16]
He died in Oct 1990 in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, NS, and was buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada MEMORIAL ID237989759. [17]
