Earl Marsden, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Earl Edward Marsden was born May 27, 1912 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Lewis and Adelaide (Foster) Marsden. Earl was raised on the family farm and attended country school and later the Stennett High School. He was united in marriage to Maxine Woods on October 3, 1934 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived near Shenandoah, Iowa where Earl worked as a farm hand until 1942 when he and Maxine moved to California. They lived there for four years moving back to Red Oak in 1946 at which time they began farming. Earl and Maxine “retired” from farming in 1989 and moved into Red Oak. Earl still helped on the farm until he was 87 years old. Earl was a member of the Stratton United Methodist Church where he was baptized as a baby and today was the oldest member of the church. He loved camping, playing cards and games, but most of all, loved his family. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother: Minnie Marsden; brother: Lester Marsden; and a grandson: Bradley Richard Marsden. Survivors include his wife of 71 years: Maxine Marsden of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Shirley Chesnut and husband Don of Adair, Iowa; sons: Clem Marsden and wife Kay of Red Oak, Iowa; and Dick Marsden and wife Jeanie of Red Oak, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Eddie Chesnut and wife Renae of Johnston, Iowa; Evan Chesnut and wife Sharon of Shell Rock, Iowa; Annette Brannen and husband Joe of Grimes, Iowa; Mike Marsden and wife Kim of Red Oak, Iowa; Kent Marsden and wife Lea of Red Oak, Iowa; Kim Plambeck and husband Doug of Red Oak, Iowa; Rod Marsden and wife Jill of Norfolk, Nebraska; and Debbie Graber and husband Mark of Red Oak, Iowa; 21 great grandchildren; brother: Raymond Marsden and wife Mildred of Red Oak, Iowa; and many many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 14, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Al Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Stratton United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
