There are a number of George Marsdens in Yorkshire in the time period in question but this one has a daughter named Mary who was born in 1839. George and his family are found in the census of Morley from 1841 on through to at least 1881. He consistently gives his birthplace as Middleton.
The 1841 census has a small error in that daughter Mary is placed with the family next door, but house number 600 is written over her entry to indicate she belongs with George.
George and Susannah's marriage record shows that he is the son of John Marsden and she is the daughter of James Broadbent. George's occupation is given as Miner, an occupation he keeps until 1861 when is given as a "farmer of 8 acres" and we find him continuing to farm in later years. Coal mining and wool production are the two common occupations that the children pursued.
George and Susannah are buried in Morley Cemetery with their son James and his wife. The tombstone provides birth and death dates.
