Elizabeth or Betty Marsh was born in about 1793-5 in Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire.
Betty married Joseph Moss on 16 May 1814 at St Oswald's Church in Winwick, Lancashire. Both were of the local parish; the witnesses were Thomas Walker and Mathew Hall.
Their eldest child Jane was born on 13 Jun 1814, and christened on 3 Jul 1814 at St Thomas' Church in Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire. Her father's occupation was recorded as nailor, and the family's address as Ashton.[1]
Their second child Ann was born on 15 Feb 1816, and christened on 24 Mar 1816 at St Thomas' Church in Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire. Her father's occupation was recorded as nailor, and the family's address as Ashton.[1]
Their daughter Ellen was born in about 1822 in Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire.
Their daughter Esther was born in about 1826 in Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire.
Their son Joseph was christened on 24 Apr 1831 at the church of St Peter and St Nicholas in Liverpool, Lancashire. His father's occupation was recorded as nail maker, and the family's address as Maguire Street.[2]
By June 6th 1841, the family were in Eccleston; Joseph (senior) was employed as a nail maker.
By March 30th 1851, Elizabeth was in the household of Joseph and Elizabeth's married daughter Ellen in Duke Street, Windle; it's not clear where Joseph was.
By April 7th 1861, the family were living at 77 Soho Street, Liverpool. Joseph senior was still a nail maker. Joseph junior was a blacksmith; he was married, and he and his wife and children were living with his parents. There were also three boarders in the household - Ann Potter, Ellen Fagan and Margaret Macue.
