Biography

Grace, aka Gratis, was born in 1849. She was the daughter of Daniel Marsh and Welthy Gaylord.

She was living with her parents and siblings in Perrysburg, Cattaraugus, New York in 1850, 1855, and 1860.^[1][2] They were in Hanover, Chautauqua, New York in 1865.^[3]

She married Rozell Mortin Starring. They had a son.

Rozell passed away in 1871.

She married Laurin Dewey. They had three children.

They were in Byron, Monroe, Washington in 1880.^[4]

Laurin passed away in 1903. She received a Navy widow's pension based on his service as a seaman on the U. S. S. Paw Paw.^[5]

In 1910, she was living with two of her daughters in Fairview, Yakima, Washington.^[6] They were in Muir, Franklin, Washington in 1920.^[7]

She moved to Grandview, Rhea, Tennessee.

She passed away in 1935 in Grandview.^[8] The informant was her son Louis Marsh Starring.

She was buried in Stebbins cemetery there.^[9] Note that the tombstone lists 1848 as her birthyear but the 1850 census and the death certificate list 1849.
