Biography

Anne Marshal ( 16 Aug 1711 Norwich, Connecticut[1] - 30 APR 1801 Norwich, New London, Connecticut[2]) was the daughter of Abiell Marshall (1690–1758) and (Abiah Hough (1690– ).

On 23 May 1729 in Norwich, Connecticut she married Noah Abel (also spelled Abell).

  3. Caleb Abel (24 May 1732 Norwichtown, New London, Connecticut Colony - 26 May 1814 Lebanon, New London, Connecticut) married Elizabeth Burley
  4. Thomas Abell (23 Mar 1742 Norwich, New London, Connecticut - 8 Dec 1824 Norwich, New London, Connecticut) married Zerviah Hyde (15 Nov 1746 Norwichtown, New London, Connecticut - 27 June 1786 Franklin, New London, Connecticut)
  5. Lucy Abel b. 23 Mar 1742 married Benajah Bushnell
  6. Abiah Abel b. 5 Aug 1747 married John Briggs
  7. Hannah Abel b. 18 Aug 1751 married John Edgcomb 9 Dec 1779. She joined the Church at Lebanon, Conn., in 1801 by letter from Bozrah Church. They had dau. Hannah, b. Oct. 28, 1780 at Norwich, Conn.


Will of Noah Abell of Norwich, dated Apr. 7, 1781: Considering my advanced years. To wife Anna, one third part of land and buildings. To my four daughters, Mary the wife of Samuel Griswold, Lucy the Wife of Benajah Bushnell, June., Abia the Wife of John Diggs, Hannah the wife of John Edgcomb, the full value of £20 to each in Spanish milled dollars, 6s to a Dollar— to be paid by my two sons Caleb Abell & Thomas Abell—each to pay one half. To Thomas Abell my Dwelling house & my barn & the land they both stand on. All the rest of Estate to be equally divided between the two sons Caleb & Thomas & they to pay equally all debts and bequests to my wife & daughters.

The two sons are named as Executors. The Will was proved in Franklin, Apr. 3, 1787. On Apr. 11, 1789, an agreement signed by Anna Abell, Caleb Abell and Thomas Abell, describing the land and the personal property that each is to have of the Estate of Noah Abell.

A metal marker at his grave reads: “A Patriots’ grave 1775-1783.”
