Biography

James was born about 1730, possibly the son of Roger Marshall of Bolton's Walls in Killynaul townland, parish of Aghaloo, county Tyrone.

In 1753, James was a witness to a deed wherein James McGuffoge of Cumber, parish of Aughalow, county Tyrone, granted a lease of 9 acres Irish Plantation Measure in Cumber townland to Joseph Marshall of Clankeen [Glenkeen], parish of Aughalow; citing Roger Marshall and James Marshall of Cumber, farmers, and Cornelius Marshall of Caledon, merchant, the witnesses.[1]

Research notes

  • Uncertain Family: It is not yet known how James related to the Killynaul and Cumber branches of the Marshall family. This uncertainty extends to any estimate of the year in which James was born. Study of the 18th and 19th century records continues, with the objective of resolving this research question.~Kilpatrick-1128 (2018-01-31)
  • The Huggins and Marshall families of the parish of Aghaloo, county Tyrone, Ireland, have been researched to the early 1700s at the PRONI in Belfast and other archives; data input by A. Kilpatrick pending.
