Biography

James was born about 1730, possibly the son of Roger Marshall of Bolton's Walls in Killynaul townland, parish of Aghaloo, county Tyrone.

In 1753, James was a witness to a deed wherein James McGuffoge of Cumber, parish of Aughalow, county Tyrone, granted a lease of 9 acres Irish Plantation Measure in Cumber townland to Joseph Marshall of Clankeen [Glenkeen], parish of Aughalow; citing Roger Marshall and James Marshall of Cumber, farmers, and Cornelius Marshall of Caledon, merchant, the witnesses.^[1]

Research notes

• Uncertain Family: It is not yet known how James related to the Killynaul and Cumber branches of the Marshall family. This uncertainty extends to any estimate of the year in which James was born.
