Biography

Laura Jane was born 24 May 1862 to Thomas J Marshall and Ellen H Thompson. Her birthplace was New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. [1]

Laura Jane Marshall married William Albert Weaver in New Orleans, Louisiana, on October 28, 1885, when he was 26 years old. Laura Jane was 24.[2][3]

A typed copy of the Marriage Certificate has been kept in the Weaver Family Bible. “Marriage Certificate This certifies that William A. Weaver and Laura J. Marshall were solemnly united by me in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony at 515-½ Dryades Street, New Orleans on the 20th day of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight Five. In Presence of James Steele, Henrietta E. Miller and Josephine B. Marshall.” Signed: T. J. Marshall, Ref. J. William Fli___, Pastor of Memorial Presby Church. [4]

In the years between 1885 and 1899, Laura Jane gave birth to seven children. William Albert Weaver, Jr. her first child lived eight days. The rest of the children went on to live long lives.

Records of the baptism of the children have not been found to date except for the baptism of George Lawrence and Gladys Johanna. On September 26, 1897 at the Grace Lutheran Church both children were baptized on the same day. They were sponsored by Rev C. B. Gohdes and his wife. Each of their birthdates, legal names and parents’ names are given in the record.[5]

The 1890 Census documents are unavailable. They would have given details such as residency, children, property, etc.

Laura Jane Marshall died at the age of 36 on the 17th of March, 1899. She died in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. Her gravestone reads “Mrs. W. A. Weaver.”[6]
