John Harold Marshall was born in 1885 at Urmston, Lancashire. [1]
He was baptised on 21 July 1885 at St. Stephen's Church, Hulme, Lancashire, the son of John William, a teacher, and Selina Louisa Marshall. The family was then living at 3 Raymond Tce. John's date of birth was recorded in the baptismal register as 6 June 1885. [2]
In the 1891 census John was living with his family at 114 Railway Rd, Urmston. He was aged 5 years. [3]
In 1901 the family was living at Llandudno Villa, Station Road, Cakemore, Worcestershire. John, aged 15, was a commercial clerk. [4]
In 1911 the family was residing at Rosslyn, 252 Long Lane, Halesowen, Worcestershire. John, aged 25, was a works clerk for an iron and steel tube maker. [5]
John Harold Marshall married Mary Hadley on 3 September 1911 at St. Paul’s Church, Blackheath, Rowley Regis. Their marriage certificate recorded John was a bachelor aged 26 and a commercial clerk. His father was named as John William Marshall, a schoolmaster. Mary was a spinster aged 30. Her father was named as Ezra Hadley (deceased). At the time of the marriage John was residing at Rosslyn, Long Lane, Halesowen and Mary at High St, Blackheath. Their witnesses were Frederick Wm Marshall, John's brother, and Ezra Hadley, Mary’s brother. [6]
The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time John and Mary were residing at The Oaks Hunnington, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. John, born 6 June 1885, was aged 54. He was an office manager at the steel tube works. Mary, born 7 October 1880, was aged 58. [7]
Mary Marshall died in 1957 aged 76 years. [8]

John Harold Marshall died in 1958 aged 72 years. [10]
