Biography

This biography was auto-generated by a GEDCOM import. It's a rough draft and needs to be edited.

Birth

Sarah Marshall was born to Martin Marshall and Catharine (surname unknown) in Pennsylvania (probably in Tinicum) circa 1803. Josephine (Moorehead) Jones' family tree from the early 1900's shows that her father was Martin Marshall, that her sisters were Ann McIntrye and Eliza Purcell, that her married name was Sarah Weisel Spear, her four children's names, etc. (The tree is basically a chart illustrating the relationships of several generations of Edward Marshall's descendants.)

From looking at the report of the accounts of Martin Marshall’s estate in the Bucks County Orphans Court Book 6, page 75 (image 61) – February Term 1823, I see that Henry Ridge was the Administrator of Martin Marshall’s estate.

File #3052 February 10, 1823 Martin Marshall, Tinicum Twp. Petition by Samuel Weisel, husband of Martin’s daughter, Sarah. This petition specifies that Martin Marshall died leaving four children --  under 14: Rebecca; daughters Ann and Eliza over 14. Nicholas Black appointed guardian of Rebecca and Anne.  Daniel Boileau appointed guardian of Elizabeth.  (Samuel Weisel petitions for Rebecca – Anne (sic)and Eliza petition for themselves. Eliza is consistently referred to here as Elizabeth.)
Note: I do NOT know who Nicholas Black and Daniel Boileau were, but it isn't the first time that I've come across Daniel Boileau's name in my research! I believe that Daniel Boileau has some connection to the Weisels. In the 1850 census, Daniel Boileau is an immediate neighbor of Samuel Weisel, Sr.'s older half-sister, Mary "Magdalena" (Weisel) Bussey/Bissey in Tinicum.

Text: A “guardian” in this sense of the meaning is NOT one who cares for the minor, but looks after the financial aspects as an overseer to ensure there is no squandering of funds by the remaining parent that will hurt the children.

Text: File #4702 Samuel Weisel April 27, 1836, Tinicum Twp.
Widow Sarah and children under 14. William, John, Mary, Jane, Rebecca, and Samuel. John M. Pursell appointed guardian.
(cont.) December 12, 1836 John M. Pursell declines to act as guardian. Moses Ridge Appointed.
Moses M. Ridge is Sarah (Marshall) Weisel Spear's first cousin.
No clue of EXACTLY who John M. Pursell is or how he's related to the Marshalls, but he's definitely related to me through the Moores and Williams on ANOTHER branch of my family tree..... Sarah Marshall's brother-in-law was Thomas Purcell (husband of Eliza.)
Note: the text about the guardianship is from the EXCELLENT citation on the Weisels.

No clue of who the Nightingail chick is, but she’s obviously related – Wonder if perhaps she’s a granddaughter/niece of David Spear????
Samuel Weisel is one of Sarah’s children from her first marriage, as is Rebecca.  The three Moorhead children all belong to Rebecca. (She’s widowed.)
The McIntyre/McIntire family is on the second page.  (The three Marshall sisters: Sarah (Marshall) Weisel Spear, Ann McIntire, and Eliza Purcell/Pursel/Pursell’s households are enumerated consecutively. Their mother, Catherine, is living in Ann’s household.)

Samuel Weisel is Sarah (Marshall) Weisel Spear's youngest child. The Moorehead/Moorhead children are Sarah’s orphaned grandchildren.  Their parents were William Howard Moorhead and Rebecca Weisel.

(I suspect that Moses Silverthorn and John Samsel may be William's grandchildren. I also believe that Ann Marshall was William's SECOND wife. These two boys were probably descended from William's first wife. They definitely do NOT belong to either Howell McEntire or Mary Jane McIntyre, Ann Marshall's children!)
