Sir John Marshall GBE CH ED PC was born on 5 March 1912, the son of Allan Marshall and Florence Ross.[1] He was a Major in the New Zealand Army, Divisional Cavalry and served during World War II.[2] After spending twelve years as Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, he served as the 28th Prime Minister for most of 1972.[3] He wrote and published his memoirs and a law book, as well as several children's books. John "Jack" Marshall died on 30 August 1988.[4]
