Biography

Great Uncle Johnny never married. He went to Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas and came back to his nephew's home Charles Robert Marshall in Bassfield, Ms. where he died. Some of the family says he came from Texas by horseback and some say horse and buggy, Either way it took him days and he never hitched up his horse again. Death Certificate says he is buried in Goodhope Cemetery, Bassfield, Ms, without a marker.

    • 1860 Census listed as John W. Marshall was age 9 with father, his Mother had died, living in Smith County, Mississippi.
    • 1864 he had joined the Civil War with the Mississippi State Troops 1st Batt'n Mississippi Infantry Company H, for a term of 30 days.
    • 1870 Census age 19, living in Clarke County, Mississippi, with a lot of different folks in the household with different farming acreage assigned, census so messed up, also living there was a relative William Helton. Looked like the household had a servant
    • 1920 Census was in Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas.
