Lance Corporal William Martin was Killed in Action during World War I.

James William Martin (later known as William) was born in 1886 at Cogges in Oxfordshire. He was the son of John Martin and his wife Mary Ann, born Mary Ann Haley or Hailey. [1] [2]

In 1891 William Martin was living in Newland near Witney in Oxfordshire with his parents John and Mary A[nn] and their other children. His age was given as 5, implying a birth date in 1885 or 1886. His birthplace was given as Coggs, Oxfordshire. [2]

In 1901 William was living in Mill Street in Witney with his parents and their other children. His age was given as 14, implying a birth date in 1886 or 1887. His birthplace was given as Coggs, Oxfordshire. He was a grocer's assistant. [3]

James W. Martin and Lilian L. Kibblewhite were married in 1915.[4][5]

James William Martin was killed in action on 3 July 1916 while serving with the 10th Battalion, the Worcestershire Regiment. He was 31 years old.
