Biography

Mary was born about 1846. She is the daughter of Christopher Martin and Nancy Athy. [1]

Note

On 1870 census says born TX. On 1880 says born Iowa. Her sister, Lucinda always lists POB as Texas. Pension record lists middle name as Jane, I have seen other records with an " A " middle initial but believe that Jane is correct middle name.
On 1900 census lists married (31) years and mother of (9) children, (5) living. Have identified (7) so two born between 1880-1900 of unknown sex.
Of the five living have identified , Columbus, George, Nettie, Harry and Maud. This is based upon pension statement that James made dated August 4, 1898.
Filed for widows pension February 4,1904. Marriage record, Book C, page 107, spells name at Marton. All pension records spell as Martin. On Claimant Affidavit, 18 May 1904, states no public record of husbands death kept here in this small place. The GAR post buried my husband.
On 1910 census, ED 57 line 224, Merrimac Township., found living , on Church street, with sons George and Harry. A Mary, age 19, listed as daughter in law under Harry. Two children, Myrtle Jackson, age 7, grand daughter and Leslie Jackson, age 9, grand son living with Mary. Mary is listed as " Head".
An " Application For Reimbursement ", filled on September 29,1910, is recorded for Physician and Undertaker expenses, by Joseph Cope, brother in law. States death by Pulmonary Tuberculosis. States place of burial as Sullivan, MO. May be buried at Crow Cemetery, next to husband or at Sullivan in an unmarked grave.
I have an strong assumption and several indications, that Mary is related to or possibly daughter of Washington Martin. The Martins were in the Lee County,IA area at the time that Mary would have been born. Also Mary indicated on the 1870 census that her birthplace was Texas.
The wife of her indicated brother in law, Joseph is Sarah L. Sarah indicated that birth place is Texas. The " L " could stand for Lucy or Lucinda. This could be the same Lucn, daughter of Washington Martin. Birth dates match, as do birth places if it was indeed Texas.
In addition, William Martin, her possible brother, married Elizabeth Isom. At the period of 1850-1860, the Isom's and Martins were together in Franklin Co, MO.
As Joseph is indicated as brother-in-law, Sarah and Lucy have places of and date of births same. I conclude that Sarah, Lucy, Lucn and Lucinda are same person.

Martin-11725 and Martin-36605 appear to represent the same person because: The name "Christopher Columbus Martin" suggests that this daughter married the father of Christopher Columbus Isom, especially if the rest of her family moved to TN/MO. Any info on your side to back this up? If so, a merge might be in order; your call!
