Biography

Please see my creative chronicling of her life submitted to and published by The Irish Genealogical Research Society in 2017 https://www.irishancestors.ie/elizabeth-little-1832-1898/

Elizabeth Jamison Martin was born in Dromore, Down, Northern Ireland in 1832, to Joseph Martin and Elizabeth nee' Jamison Martin. [1]

She married David Little on 1 Oct 1856 in the 2nd Presbyterian Church (now Banbridge Road), Banbridge District, Dromore, Down, Ireland. [2] They were married by Rev. John McKee, the first minister of this congregation. Curiously, Rev. McKee may be related to the Molly McKee Kellum's father, Kevin McKee, as his McKee ancestry tracks back to County Down. [The surname Little is also spelled Lyttle. A Samuel Lyttle is listed in the 2nd Dromore Presbyterian Church records of 1857. John, Ellen and William Martin are also listed. These are likely family members who did not immigrate. [3]

The newly-weds along with Elizabeth's father, step-mother and siblings departed Liverpool, England arriving in Castle Garden, New York City, NY on 17 November 1856. She was listed as Eliza Jane on the ship's register.[4]

After a brief period of time in New York City when they lived in a tenement on Mott Street, their daughter Mary Ann was born. It appears David got employment with the canal building industry. Perhaps because he was a blacksmith back in Northern Ireland. In 1860 the family was living in New Hartford, Oneida, New York.[5] Elizabeth and David then moved to other locations in New York State, adding children to their family, but by 1870 they were living in Oakland; District 15, Allegany, Maryland.[6] She, David and their family continued to live in Oakland. Elizabeth died 16 August 1898 in Oakland (18 years after David)[7] and is buried in the Oakland Cemetery (old section)[8]
